On the road....

As an artist there's nothing I like more than coming up with original ideas. The trouble is, so many of the "original" ideas have been already taken!

Travelling in the car to Brisbane airport, I kept noticing interesting views in the side mirrors (I was not driving, by the way!).  I hesitated to get out my camera, as this sort of shot is not particularly "original".

However, despite my doubts, I began to snap away, and was pleased enough with the results.

And these photos will be a reminder to me, that even if something has been done before, it can still be done again, on a different day, in a different way.

Queensland impressionist image

These pink crepe myrtle blooms, scattering a layer of petals on an ageing timber deck made a pretty Impressionist image.  The original photo was taken in Malaney, Queensland.

A Study in Purple...

Triangular composition and diagonal lines feature in this study of tropical leaves. This plant's leaves actually were this colour purple!  The diagonal lines on the leaves draw the eye into the centre of the composition. The fence palings and garden mulch add some texture too, which adds interest.

The photo was taken near Mooloolaba in Queensland.

Twelve minutes past midnight...

Happy New Year 2015!! This photo was taken just after the midnight fireworks on 1st January 2015. The Sydney skyline is awash with smoke and lights and muted colour. I thought it had a Turner-eque look to it, too.

As an artist I am always looking at different ways of seeing things. To me, what happens before or after the main event can be more interesting than the event itself.

Wishing all readers a happy, creative and inspiring New Year.
